CHS LoMo grain facility

CHS SunBasin Growers is expanding its Lower Monumental (LoMo) grain facility near Kahlotus, Wash., with a new 1.3-million-bushel ground pile and a 20,000 bushels-per-hour receiving pit. The investment is designed to add storage and improve receiving speed for soft white winter wheat and hard red winter wheat during busy seasons.

LoMo provides access to barge loading and grain movement on the Snake River. Grain at this facility is received during a short harvest window, usually in August and September, creating significant demand on the facility’s current receiving system.

“This expansion adds speed and space at LoMo to better serve producers during the busiest part of harvest,” said Chris Guess, senior director of operations, CHS SunBasin Growers. “Increasing receiving capacity and storage at this key Snake River location will help strengthen our ability to move grain efficiently and provide market access for our customers.”

The new receiving pit and ground pile are expected to enable simultaneous receipt of both wheat varieties, increase harvest throughput and create more space for grain movement. Construction is anticipated to begin in winter 2026–27, with the expansion targeted to be operational by June 2027.

“As the needs of farmers continue to evolve, CHS is investing in facilities that will help meet those needs today and into the future,” said Keith Schumacher, vice president of operations, CHS. “By focusing our resources on LoMo, we are strengthening a critical asset and positioning CHS SunBasin Growers to create long-term value for our farmer-owners and customers.”
